Mickey Marketing: Mania or Magic?

"Hidden Mickey's" Throughout our Room
We just left from a couple days at the "Happiest Place on Earth," Disneyland. We stayed in a newly renovated room in the Disneyland Hotel. It was very nice, and we were quite happy. It didn't take long for us to discover the "hidden" Mickey's throughout the room. There were the obvious finds: the soaps, the carpet, the bedding... then the details, the lamp shades, the lamp pedestal, the etched glass tiles, the bath spiggot!

It made me start to think about logo design and of course usage. Was this a little overboard, or is this marketing brilliance from the folks at Disney? Of course, I then started thinking about my own logo... would it survive the Mickey test? Could I make my logo work well as carpet, curtains, and sink faucet handles? At this point, I think I'll hold off on those extra elements... but maybe someday.

Shopping in Chicago

Various finds at P.O.S.H. Chicago

I just wrapped up a quick 4 day trip to Chicago and wanted to share a great shopping find! Near our hotel was a store named P.O.S.H. Just looking at the windows had me hooked line and sinker -- a vintage map of France, old books, ephemera and antique finds galore!

Once inside, I loved browsing the various fabulous items from restaurant china, hotel silver, French accessories and flea market finds. This is a must see store the next time you happen to be in the windy city.

Ode to the 70's

We're enjoying a long weekend in Chicago celebrating my husband's grandmother's 90th birthday! We, of course, made the dutiful trek to the American Girl store for my daughter!

I just loved Julie's "room". So many things remind me of growing up!

It was fun telling my daughter all about some of the tchotchkes -- although I must admit she was a little distracted. Gee, I wonder why?!
