Free Printable Vintage Pumpkin Seed Tags and Roasted Pumpkin Seed Recipes

Free Printable Vintage Pumpkin Seed Tags
It's pumpkin carving time! Although one might say the best part of carving a pumpkin is when you finally light your jack o'lantern and see your creation, but I say it's the pumpkin seeds. I still can taste my mom's recipe... it was rather basic (i.e., lots of butter and salt), and so tasty!

Here are some festive vintage-style Printable Pumpkin Seed Tags perfect to tie around a little bag of roasted pumpkin seed goodness to hand out to friends, neighbors and family. This treat is a great alternative to candy, and can last well beyond Halloween. You can even roast pumpkin seeds and put them at each guests' place at the Thanksgiving table.

Football, Tailgate or Big Game Party: Art Activity and Game Ideas

Football Saturday (and Sunday) is just around the corner... here are more Football party ideas-- some great arts and craft activities and game ideas for your affair!

Arts and Crafts Ideas for your Football Party

These art activity ideas are great for a big game party at home, or if little ones will be at your tailgate party, consider bringing a small folding table and setting out these activities for some pre-game fun.

Make Your Own Pennant
You can cut pennant shapes from poster board
or buy pre-cut pennants online. Set these out
with crayons or markers and make some colorful
pennants to root for your team! Below are some
online options for buying pre-cut pennants:

Make “Green” Cheerleading Pom Pons
Girls will love this activity and be even more excited when they are done... they can cheer on their team in style. Best of all, this is a great craft using recycled materials.
  • Empty your plastic bag bin, and if need be, ask friends and neighbors for their extra plastic bags.
  • Sort the bags into colors if you’d like, then cut into 1” wide strips.
  • Lay the plastic bag strips, several 15” pieces of cut string, and colorful electric tape on a table for kids to assemble their own pom pons.
  • To make the pom pons, have kids gather a bunch of plastic bag strips together
  • Tie the bunch together in the the center.
  • Now, fold the bunch in half and bound the folded edge with colorful electric tape.
  • Make sure to leave the extra string hanging loose.
  • Tie the extra string in a loop, so kids can wrap around hands to be held.
Now let, the cheering begin!

Face Paint in the Team Colors
Hire a professional face painter, or perhaps just your local teenage
babysitter for some face painting fun. Print out some college
helpful guides.
Football Coloring Pages
Check out your team’s website and search for “coloring pages”
to see if you can find any art pages for kids to embellish.
Here are some examples:
Game Ideas for your Football Party
Of course, watching the game is the main attraction of this party, but perhaps you have a large crowd coming or want some half time entertainment ideas... here are some game ideas for your next Football Party:
A “Friendly” Game of Flag/Touch Football
This scene has been played out in many movies and TV shows! Do you remember the scene in the Big Chill when the old friends head out at half time to play ball? How about the hilarious Friends Thanksgiving episode where they play a “friendly” game while the turkey cooks!
Now it’s time for you to have some “friendly” competition at your party with a little scrimmage. Pick up some flag football supplies and find a humorous trophy for the winning team. All will remember the fun!
Football Trivia Game
Print up some of your favorite football trivia questions and quiz your friends of their knowledge during half time. Offer a prize to the winner like tickets to another game, a football jersey, or even just a gift card to the local coffee shop. Here are search results for football trivia questions:

Cheerleaders Unite
Are some of your party goers not interested in the scrimmage, but would rather cheer from the sidelines? Put those “Green” pom pons (from the Art Activity section above) to use and make up some cheerleader routines! The funnier and sillier, the better! Here are some websites with some basic cheers:

Sing the Cheer Song
Show your team spirit and gather the crowd to sing the cheer song loud and clear! Make sure to look up the words on the college/teams website, so you get it right! Here are some sample College Team Fight Songs (note, some teams have recently moved divisions, so you may need to click the old division to find your team):

Halloween Vintage Mask Party

Boo to Everyone in Blogland!!
It's been awhile since I've had a chance to write. You must forgive me... I've been buried in Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the beginnings of holiday fanfare! Yes, I was singing Christmas carols yesterday, as I was starting in on a holiday project, yet I haven't even had time to post about my latest Halloween items... so here it goes!

I'm sure you've seen them around-- those great vintage-style masks of spooky cats, frightful pumpkin heads, owls and more... Well I just had to make my own party kit based on the look!

I hand drew these mask images, scanned them in my trusty computer... and had fun adding colors, textures and more. I love how they turned out.

I also love how each invite has it's own mask (set of 6 invites...) So, when sending out those invites, you can make sure to send the right frightful mask to the right person!

Now this party could really be any type of Halloween party-- it could be a "mask" party-- where all have to come with a mask on, it could be a costume party, or it could just be a good ol'fashioned Halloween party- full of frightful fun and CAAAaaanddy, of course!

Are you having a Halloween party this year? What's your theme?

P.S., Like I said, I'm in the process of updating my website with all my latest holiday creations. I'll update with a link as soon as it's there... but if ya gotta have it now, make sure to email me, and I'll mail it off ASAP! :)

Jars, Jars and More Jars

To go along with my last post...
how 'bout adding some jars to that game room motif?
Wouldn't these look cute on the mantle,
in a bookshelf or on a side table?

Game pieces are always a hit,
but what about these croquet balls too.
Great vintage wood balls...
I love this idea too!
Cards from any questionare-type game
would be a great addition to my family's dining room table.
It would be really fun at a dinner party as well!

And, then there's the paint brushes in jars...
this may not go well in the newly anointed game room,
but sure could make a great arrangement
pretty much anywhere.

Think of all the rest of the jar decorating possibilities throughout the year...
  • Halloween- candy corns, spooky fake spiders, toy eyeballs, etc.
  • Thanksgiving - small gourds, fall leaves, acorns, nuts, etc.
  • Christmas - ribbon candy, peppermints, small ornaments, bells, tinsel, etc.
and the list goes on.

Have you used jars to decorate in your home? What do you put in them?

Pictures above were taken at Martis Camp, Lake Tahoe.

ROADTRIP!!!

Our family was in desperate need of a get away this past Thanksgiving weekend! We had our turkey, we had our family gathering, now we needed to get the heck out of dodge and go on a ROADTRIP!!! (you must yell "roadtrip" like a frat boy when you say that word :))

When my husband and I were "courting" we were quite the roadtrippers. Our longest and most debaucherous roadtrip was from San Francisco to N'Orleans via Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Austin, TX. It's debatable if I'll ever share all the details of that trip with my kids... but now it was time for our kids to get a taste the adventures of the road!

Ok. I admit, I'm being a bit dramatic. We really were only heading out of town for an overnight... but we left the house with only a small bag, and no hotel reservations for the night. We were really living on the edge. ;)

Our destination... the gold country of California. Why? Because it's beautiful in fall, and it's in range of a good overnight destination from our house! Now, I think everyone in the Bay Area had the same idea as us, or else they just thought that getting in their cars and driving on the freeway was how they would spend their weekend... so the traffic was a nightmare.

In true roadtrip fashion... we got off the main highway, and cut our way up to the Sierra hills through back towns and country roads... with our GPS/traffic maps guiding the way. (Yes, the GPS kindof kills the "adventuresome" aspect of the roadtrip, I know.) We had a great time pointing out to the kids things that you can't see off I-80...

Once up in the hills, we headed to Jackson, CA. It was already evening, but the town was a buzz. Holiday festivites were in the air. Lights lined the streets and the shops were buzzing with people. For dinner we headed into Sutter Creek. Even more lights, even more decorations. It was a great way to kick off the holiday season.

Here's a window from a shop called "Tomorrow's Heirlooms" in Sutter Creek, CA. Very cute place.

This was in the window of the ice cream parlor in Sutter Creek (featured in Sunset Magazine.) What a great place. Not only was the ice cream de-lish, but the owner even headed over to the old fashioned piano and played some tunes for us. Then he plugged in the mechanical Jingle Bells song and away the piano played.

Great memories, and great road trip!
