More Wild West Party Game Ideas
Want some more game ideas to get 'yer crowd running around? No problem. Here are a few to make your party a blast:

Lasso
Lassoing up Some Fun!
Grab some rope and make some lassos for the kids to give there hand a wrestling with a bull! Set up a hay bale with some horns, and have the kids practice throwing the lasso. They'll love this game, and you'll be surprise how good some little cowboys are!
A Real Cowgirl!

Ride a Horse (Saddle on Hay Bale)
Set up a saddle on a hay bale and let the kids "go for a ride!"
If real horses aren't part of your party, no problem! Just set up some hay bales with saddles (possibly borrow some from a local barn/horse friend), and you'll have your cowboys riding the whole party long!

Needle in a Haystack
I remember this game fondly from my father's company picnic, year after year.... Finding treasures in hay is a lot of work-- but the reward is well worth it!

Layout a large tarp on the ground (you will definitely want the tarp so clean up is easy.) Un furl a hay bale or 2 onto the tarp. Now throw little treasures or coins throughout the way.

Line the kids up around the tarp, and set them off hunting together to find their treasure!

Horse Relays
The old fashioned horse on a stick can be great fun for relays at a cowboy/western party. Separate your party into 2 teams and set up a obstacle course through your yard that each cowboy much gallop around. Come up with fun "stops" the horse rider must do along the way. Relay races are always a hit!

Square Dance
Head online to buy a fun square dance recording, and learn a couple steps. Now gather the party together and put on a little square dance fun!

Inspired by BBQ Sauce Labels: A Wild Western BBQ Bash Invitation by B.Nute

BBQ Sauce Label Inspiration for a Western BBQ Bash Invitation by B.Nute productions
I'm not sure if it was the time of day, and I was particularly hungry, but when a customer requested a BBQ invitation-- and mentioned they were holding it at a Steak House... the first thing that popped into my mind was BBQ sauce!

Inspiration is truly everywhere. I had so much fun designing this invite. I hand made the background pattern... it has an old west, Victorian-weathered feel to it. Then, I made a bold "badge" shape to contain all the invitation details. More weathered textures, and lots of old western fonts... and it's time for some grilling and fun.

Mmmm, mmm good!

The Party Girl's Library: Party Book Review- "Great Parties for Kids" by Rose Hammick and Charlotte Packer

Great Parties for Kids by Rose Hammick and Charlotte Packer on Amazon
"Great Parties for Kids: Fabulous and Creative Ideas for Children Aged 0-10" by Rose Hammick and Charlotte Packer is without a doubt a must have for all party girls' libraries! Although many of the party themes are tried and true, the ideas surrounding these themes are incredibly creative. Also, the photos are stunning. Just looking at them without reading any text will get your mind flowing with many ideas.

Besides the great photos and creative ideas, the one thing that is most attractive to me about this book is that the parties have an element of "home made" that make them realistic and doable. They don't appear so high-end, or expensive, that when you look at it, you can't fathom how you'd ever put that party together, let alone be able to afford it! These parties are creative and achievable.

The book is broken down by age-- parties for 1-2 year olds, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-10 year olds. Here is a quick summary of the parties that stand out in this book:

Under the Sea Party - Ooo, the turquoises and greens and the little ones dressed as mermaids and sea creatures, perfect! The "coral" Queen of the Sea crown just adds to the touch.

Pirate Party - The jungle gym in the backyard decorated as the pirate ship is brilliant. Looks like an afternoon of fun!

Wild West Party - There's nothing like a Wild West party filled with red and white checks, teepees, saloon doors, a sheriff's hut, cowboys and squaws! Everyone will have a blast at this western gathering.

Gangsters and Molls - A Flapper filled, 1920's gangster party- filled with urban art deco appeal, and kid flair. The sundae bar looks messy and delicious, just how it should be!

There are several more outstanding party ideas in this book, as well as plenty of recipes. Your Party Girl library just won't be complete without this book, so head out and get it now.

Happy New Year: 2010 Hot Trends, What's coming in 2011?

To wrap up the year, I wanted to add my 2 cents about some trends I've been noticing-- would love to know your favorite things from this past year, and what you look forward to seeing in 2011!

As seen on the Modern Mom by John W Golden on Etsy
Move over Owl, Here Comes the Fox
Have you noticed that the fox is everywhere? First it was birds, then owls, and now the sly fox has seemed to have taken it's place. Although these cute little woodland creatures seem to co-mingle so well, I've definitely noticed that the fox is the hottest in the crowd! Let's see if he can stay on top in 2011.

Cake Pops on Amazon
Cake Pops are Hot!
Is the cupcake reign over? Some would argue yes, some would say no way... but let me tell you, any treat on a stick is just too cool. The cake pop phenomenon is just so great. Have you seen them yet? If not, you must check it out!

Photo Booth Props: Beyond the Mustache
Mustache props are so cute, but folks are definitely moving on... there are clown props on a stick, santa/christmas props on a stick.... and much more. I think we just love to put things on a stick and make funny faces! I wonder where this trend will lead? Perhaps it may lead back to just a good ol' dress up box next to the photo booth... like those shops at the amusement park where you can dress in western garb and get your photo taken. Who knows. But, for now, I expect to see many more props on a stick at parties for fun "candid" pics!

Woodland Fairy Cake Bunting by B.Nute productions
Cake Bunting is so Cute
Cupcakes have their fun with cute sticks to put in them, and now cakes can get that attention too! Aren't cake buntings the best? I just love anything "mini" and this is definitely one of those things that just make a cake. You can create a whole party on top of the cake now... the question is, who will want to eat it when it looks so cute? I look forward to more cake bunting in 2011, and can't wait to "miniaturize" more things to put around the party scene!

Wishing you a very Happy New Year. I look forward to plenty of parties, fun and many new trends in 2011!

Wild West Weekend

OK, so my “big” birthday celebration didn’t just end with a psychedelic party (see Summer of Love), the partying had to continue for at least another week!

So, another celebration, means another party theme, right? (Call me crazy, I know!) Since my whole family (sisters, brother, parents, spouses, kids, etc.) all headed to Keystone, Colorado-- I thought why not a good ol’fashioned Wild West weekend!

Besides the great company, delicious meals, and tasty wines, the 2 highlights of our trip was our hayride and an outing to an old West town!

including Alma and Fairplay. I had done some “research” onOne afternoon, my sisters and I hopped in the car and headed towards South Park. Yes, this is the same South Park as the cartoon television show... South Park is located almost in the middle of the state, and the area consists of several towns the web before arriving, so I felt so knowledgeable when I told my sisters what a great roadtrip with would be for us.

We typed in Alma, CO in the GPS and headed out on our adventure. Thank goodness that was not the only stop, because we flew by the town of Alma with out even blinking an eye! Fortunately, Fairplay had much to offer. Not only did we find a great low-key deli for lunch, we stumbled upon a great shop for mountain cabin accessories as well as a completely recreated Western town.

After my sister shopped, we wandered through the western town. It included several different homes of the late 1800’s, and apocathary shop, a post office, a hotel, a bar, and pretty much ever other shop you’d find in an 1800’s western town. Apparently the many of the buildings are actually original... moved from neighboring towns, to recreate a town feel. Inside the buildings were hundreds of antiques and artifacts that brought the town to life. I must say, the doctors and the dentist’s office were quite frightening. The tools at those times were quite archaic!

A couple days after that adventure, we all headed out for a hayride. Again, another great western adventure.... lasso practice, horseshoes, a tasty dinner and a great colorado folk band to entertain us. The kids were in heaven, and the adults had a blast too. I must of been a cowgirl in a former life, because I do love being in the mountains and a good hayride!
