Happy 4th of July!

Patriotic Fun at the Lake
Happy [belated] Fourth of July! We've just returned from a long weekend at Lake Tahoe... Tahoe in the summer is definitely one of my favorite places in the world. Warm days filled with swimming, crawdad fishing and long walks... pleasant nights with lots and lots of stars and the sounds of the lake. It was hard to leave, but I'll be back in August for another fix...

Flags, Flags and Flags!

I know I'm 2 days late, but I wanted to get in a little post about flags... specifically the American Flag. I've always been a big "flag day" person. It's not like our family really celebrated it, but since my name is shared with one of the original seamstress' of the flag, Betsy Ross, I've always felt a kinship to the flag and it's day!

This time of year, flags are everywhere... So festive, so summer, so fourth of July! Here are some of my favorite finds...

What a cute Flag Banner by fellow etsian "walkthetalk". I like the uneven-ness, and love the stitched stars. Check out her Etsy Store.

This bib is adorable! I wish my kids were young enough to still wear one of these! This is created by another Etsian - Krispybanana... Check out her store: Krispybanana on Etsy.

photo from Williams-Sonoma

Last week I received the new Williams-Sonoma catalog with this flag table setting in it. I just love it... right down to the tin buckets and cherry pie a la mode! Mmmm, summer.

I hope you got your flag out, dusted it off and put it up proudly last Sunday for Flag Day... if not, get it out now, and dust it off... the fourth will be here before ya know it!

Fireworks and Fun

Another fourth of July spent at Lake Tahoe... it just can’t be beat! Not only is the weather great, but the kids have their cousins to play with, and we get to walk outside the porch and watch a great firework show over the lake!

Our kids are less than enthusiastic about the fireworks show outside the back door.... if they had it their way, perhaps it would be on the other side of California... or even better, it would just be cancelled. Ever since they were babies, I must say, loud noises have always bothered them. (This is pretty hard to believe given how noisy our family is!)

So, my solution this year... give them some earplugs, and give them front row seats and see what happens. Well, it worked like a charm. My daugther watched eagerly... my son, a little more reticent on daddy’s shoulder after it started. At the end of the display, I went to ask him how he liked it and he was asleep!! I guess the earplugs really worked!

Here are more shots from our lazy days at the lake...
