It's Oscar awards time again and you know what that means... listening to unbearably long acceptance speeches where inevitably the orchestra music starts to play and the deserving actor, actress or film contributor is kicked off the stage! Well, here's a great free printable game to fill that time and get your crowd laughing. Enough with the emotions, have each guest at your Oscar Party or Movie Party use these fill-in-the-blank/Mad Lib style acceptance speeches to create their own speech. Here's how to play.

Oscar Menu
I love creating an Oscar menu to match the Best Films. This year, there's seemingly a large number of nominated films, 10 to be exact... and since unfortunately haven't seen over 1/2 the films, this task of creating a menu seemed quite daunting. Thank goodness for the internet! I did a quick search and found a great article full of menu ideas on Epicurious.com: Best Picture Inspired Menu Ideas. I love their descriptions. For True Grit, they provide a "Feast Fit for Cowboys." For 127 Hours, "Food as Fuel", and Toy Story 3, "A Day-Care Finger Food Menu for Kids of All Ages". Very fun.

Tonight's the night... time to put on the ritz, and head down the red carpet... the Academy Awards are about to begin! Wouldn't it be fun to go? There would be no sleeping in, though... it would be up and out early, hair, makeup, massage-- to get ready for the big event. Here's the look I may go for this year...

Dress & Makeup

Love this dress by lelarose. The "crepe paper" material, the soft pink, the flowers. Ooo, how simple, yet elegant, old fashion, yet off the shoulder sexy. Nice! And, the makeup too! I do like the softness of her makeup-- not too heavy, but definitely there to dress this look up!

The Hair

Love the curls, and the hair piece. I may look for something a little more vintage-inspired in my hair, but these are the curls I'd go for this year! (This headpiece is by Sara Gabriel.)

The Jewels

Perhaps this vintage style jewel could be made into my hair piece? It has the softness of the pearl, and the sparkle of the crystal-- could be real diamonds too, I'm not picky!

Speaking of diamonds, I could use an accessory or 2 of sparkle-- a nice ring, a lovely bracelet, and delicate yet sparkly necklace... that would be just delightful!

Hommage to Oscar!

Well, tonight's the night... it's Oscar time. Right about now, I'm sure the stars are primping and priming for the event. I love the Oscars. I don't know why, given at this point in my life, I'm not seeing any movies in a theatre... except if they are rated G, but I still love the hollywood glam!

I used to throw an Oscar party every year, but since kids, I've taken a slight break in the big production! My sister, though, has now taken on the role in earnest, and I love to hear what she's planning!
My sister has not only thrown blow-out Oscar parties including big screens and formal attire, she has also been to the Oscars-- not the actual event, but the after parties (which in my book is better than the Oscars themselves.) She went the year of the Lord of the Rings phenomenon... Unfortunate for her, she's not a big Tolken fan... but she did meet Frodo's co-horts - one who I think is a big star on the TV show LOST.

One of the best traditions that she and I started for our Oscar parties was the menu planning... We based our dishes around the Best Picture nominees. It's so fun coming up with something that is in theme with the movie!
